What happens if my child needs medications during school hours?

All medications must have a doctor's order to be given at school
(including
over the counter meds). If a doctor orders meds 2 times a day, it
should be
given at home, 12 hours apart. If a child needs medications 4
times a
day...have your doctor write a note that the medicine needs to be
given at
school. Ask them to write: Medication name, how much to give and
when it
should be given. All meds should be sent in the original
prescription bottle. If you have any questions concerning this,
please call
me (390-2242 Ext.2113).

Do I always need a doctor's note when my child is out sick?

If your child is absent for 5 consecutive days you will need a
doctor's
note. When your child is absent, please call the attendance line
at 390-2242
Ext. 500.

My child had a fever this morning. Do I send him to school?

Please do not send a child to school with a fever. Although over
the counter
meds may take the fever away, it only lasts 4 hours. Children
need to be
fever-free for 24 hours.

My child says he/she feels fine after vomiting all night. Do I send him/her?

No! Your child needs to replace lost fluids. They also need to
make up for
lost sleep. A child needs to be well rested and hydrated in order
to learn.

I want to bring cupcakes or brownies to my child's class for their birthday.

Due to the new Wellness Policy, it is not recommended that you
bring these
foods. If you want to send a treat, I recommend you check the
list of
acceptable foods provided by the cafeteria food service. This
does not mean
you must buy the products from them. It's just a list of
acceptable foods
approved by the Wellness Policy. All school districts in New
Jersey are
trying to curb the amount of high fat, sugar, and foods of
minimal
nutritional value, that can lead to childhood obesity.

I just found out my child has ADHD. I need more information about medication.

Go to the icon and click on the General Health Link. This website
will
explain the medications for ADHD and Depression. It's a great
site with
valuable information!

I changed my home number/ cell number. Should I notify the school?

The only way the school can contact you is by calling your home,
cell or
work numbers. Please call the school @ 390-2242 to keep your
information
current.

One of my emergency contact numbers has changed. Now what do I do?

Contact the school secretaries, the school nurse, or your child's
teacher.

My child will be absent for a family vacation. Do I advise the school?

If your child will be absent for an extended period of time,
please notify
the front office secretaries. In order to prevent unnecessary
phone calls
from the front office, please let us know your child will be
absent from
school. Let us know how long they will be out and when they will
return.

I need to register my child who will be entering kindergarten in September.

Kindergarten Registration is held in February of the school-year
before your
child will attend. In order to register you will need to bring:
Birth
Certificate, Proof of Immunization record, and 2 Proofs of
Residency
(Driver's License, utility bill, tax bill, etc;). You will NOT be
permitted
to register unless ALL items are presented. You may return at a
later date
when all items are presented.

I think my child may have head lice. What do I do?

Contact the school nurse at 390-2242 Ext.2113. The nurse will
give you some
recommendations to handle this situation. Head lice is a common
condition in
elementary children, it is NOT a disease. Having lice does not
mean you are
not clean.
Be sure to check this web page for more detailed information
concerning head
lice.

I treat my child with an over the counter head lice shampoo. Now what?

Be sure to contact the nurse @ 390-2242 Ext. 2113 to let them
know that your
child has been treated. Once treated, and the nits have been
removed, you
can return your child to school. If the medicated shampoo
recommends a re-
treatment in 7-10 days, be sure to check your child's hair to see
if a re-
treatment is necessary. Your child's hair should be checked DAILY
for eggs
or live lice for at least 2 weeks.

Can I prevent my child from getting lice?

Although there is no documented research on lice prevention,
there are some
products on the market that claim their products will repel lice
and other
insects. Please check THE FAIRY TALES website @
www.Fairytaleshaircare.com
for further information. I am not endorsing this product, but the
website
looked interesting. Fairy Tales Products are sold @ Village
Pharmacy in
Marmora.
