What happens if my child needs medications during school hours?

All medications must have a doctor's order to be given at school
(including over the counter meds). If a doctor orders meds 2
times a day, it should be given at home, 12 hours apart. If a
child needs medications 4 times a day...have your doctor write a
note that the medicine needs to be given at school. Ask them to
write: Medication name, how much to give and when it should be
given. All meds should be sent in the original prescription
bottle. If you have any questions concerning this, please call
me (390-2242 Ext.2113).

My child had a fever this morning. Do I send him to school?

Please do not send a child to school with a fever. Although over
the counter meds may take the fever away, it only lasts 4 hours.
Children need to be fever-free for 24 hours.

My child says he/she feels fine after vomiting all night. Do I send him/her?

No! Your child needs to replace lost fluids. They also need to
make up for lost sleep. A child needs to be well rested and
hydrated in order to learn.

I want to bring cupcakes or brownies to my child's class for their birthday.

Due to the new Wellness Policy, it is not recommended that you
bring these foods. If you want to send a treat, I recommend you
check the list of acceptable foods provided by the cafeteria food
service. This does not mean you must buy the products from them.
It's just a list of acceptable foods approved by the Wellness
Policy. All school districts in New Jersey are trying to curb the
amount of high fat, sugar, and foods of minimal nutritional
value, that can lead to childhood obesity.

My child will be absent for a family vacation. Do I advise the school?

If your child will be absent for an extended period of time,

unnecessary phone calls from the front office, please let us know

I think my child may have head lice. What do I do?

Contact the school nurse at 390-2242 Ext.2113. The nurse will
give you some recommendations to handle this situation. Head lice
is a common condition in elementary children, it is NOT a
disease. Having lice does not mean you are not clean.
Be sure to check this web page for more detailed information
concerning head lice.

I treat my child with an over the counter head lice shampoo. Now what?

Be sure to contact the nurse @ 390-2242 Ext. 2113 to let them
know that your child has been treated. Once treated, and the nits
have been removed, you can return your child to school. If the
medicated shampoo recommends a re-treatment in 7-10 days, be sure
to check your child's hair to see if a re-treatment is necessary.
Your child's hair should be checked DAILY for eggs or live lice
for at least 2 weeks.
