I began teaching at the high school level in Philadelphia, where I was born.
After college, I was an insurance underwriter for Travelers and for the
Firemens Fund Insurance companies. I was the first woman to attend the
Firemens Fund Underwriters School in San Francisco. I then married and
moved to New Jersey. I joined Prudential Insurance and was Underwriting
Administrator for the northeastern United States. I missed the classroom,
and so I returned to my first love: teaching. I taught 7th and 8th grade,
and then founded my own preschool. After ten happy years running my own
school, and being an at-home mom, I received my Masters degree in Special
Education, while also teaching part-time at Rowan University. I closed my
school when I was offered a position as the Preschool Disabled Program teacher
at the newly-opened Primary School. I taught special education at the Primary
school for 11 years, and have taught full-day Kindergarten since 2000.
The goal in my classroom is to encourage independence, self-confidence, a
willingness to try, to experiment. I hope that I can help each child to
discover how much that child is capable of doing. I want to create an
environment filled with fun, carefully planned so that every child, every
minute, is having fun while learning. I hope each child will leave my
classroom appreciating the world around him/her, understanding the
importance of friendship, and feeling that wonderful joy when he/she finally
beams and says, "I did it!!"
