Spelling and Sight Words

We will begin the year learning how to read color words and number words.  
The sight words listed are words that your child should be able to read and spell.  
Please review these words daily.

The children should be able to read and spell the following sight words:

the, a, to, you, go, come, down, had, have, is, I, not, we, can, will, in, not, or, said, and, 
like, my, see, is, she, up, at, as, be, has, he, his, it, its, look, many, no, of, on, by, do, 
each, her, but, did, for, from, get, was, with, your, about, all, how, if, make, other, out, so, 
some, that, their, them, then, these, there, were, when, where, which, word, because, been, call,
are, him, they, one, this, time, use, could, who, story, read, would, find, long, their, more, 
write, number, way, day, made, may, into, two, people, first, than, school, children, animal, 
family, clock, brother, coat, best, now, girl, crash, fly, ride, little, friend, pretty, after, 
mother, don't, it's, night, rain, jump, question, know, stop, give, play


Color Words - red, yellow, blue, green, gray, black, white, brown, purple, 
pink

Number Words - one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten

If your child can read all of these words, he/she needs to learn how to spell them.  Encourage 
your youngster to write sentences for any of the words.  Have him/her bring 
it in to me and he/she can earn a gold slip.
