It is important for the children to be reading books that are "just right"
for them. Reading "just right" books allows the children to grow as
readers. Below is a list of steps a child should go through to see if a
book is "just right" for him/her.
A "just right" book
1. choose a book
2. open to the middle of the book
3. start reading
4. If you come to a word you don't know, put one finger down (pinky first)
5. If you put your thumb down (5 unknown words, the book is too hard and
not "just right" for you) choose another book
If a book is "just right" then you are interested in it, you understand it,
and it flows.
