Should my child memorize the addition and subtraction facts?

YES!

Do you notify the students and parents about when tests will be given?

No. In second grade I want to assess whether or not the skills taught in
class have been learned. I do not want students to memorize information for
a test. Memorized information is usually quickly forgotten.

What is Accelerated Reader?

Accelerated Reader is a computer program where students can take tests on
books that they have read. The program keeps track of student progress.
All students have the opportunity to select books from my ability-leveled
classroom library, and take tests during independent reading time. A report
will be sent home to you at the end of every marking period.
