Homework

·       Math homework will be sent home as assigned.  Look for important parent information letters for each unit.

 ·       Spelling homework is assigned individually.  Students are given a pretest each week.  Only words that were misspelled will be assigned for homework.  A spelling packet will go home on Mondays.  Spelling packets are due Fridays.

 ·       Reading homework/reports will be assigned periodically with a specific due date.

 ·       Reader's Theater packets will occasionally come home.  Students should practice reading their part aloud.  The packet MUST come back to school every day for practice in class.

 ·        Students should work on homework no more than 30 minutes a night.  Homework is assigned to reinforce what we learn in class and to help teach responsibility.

 ·        I expect students to try their best and work neatly.  Students are responsible for bringing their homework back to school in their “Home Folder.”  Students must have their names on all assignments.

·        Parents are the key to making homework a positive experience for their children.  Therefore, I ask that you make home work a top priority at home, provide necessary supplies and a quiet homework environment, establish a regular time to do homework, provide praise and support, and contact me if there is a problem.

·        Some students will need more support with homework than others.  Parents should make sure their child understands the directions, and has all the supplies necessary to complete the task.  Encourage your child to work on his/her own, but review the work and point out errors that need correcting.  You might say, “I see a mistake in this math box, try again.”

·        Please check your child’s “Home Folder” daily.  Empty the folder of completed work and memos.  Make sure neat and complete homework is put in the folder to come back to school.  You can help teach your child the good organizational and study skills that will help them to be successful in school.

·        Children need encouragement and support from the people whose opinions they value most-their parents.  Your consistent praise can encourage your child to feel good about his/her ability and motivate your child to do his/her best.  Praise your child’s efforts and improvements that are made each day.
