Cultural Arts

2007-08 Cultural Arts Assemblies:

Kicking off our cultural arts program this year is actor and musician Dennis
Kobray as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mr. Kobray dresses as Mozart, describes
the life and times of the musician and plays several classical Mozart
pieces. Students and teachers always expect an educational and entertaining
performance and we are never disappointed after a visit from Mr. Kobray.

In October, Warnsdorfer welcomes Kenneth Little Hawk as he presents “Two-
Legged Nation.” Mr. Little Hawk, through music and storytelling, focuses on
the importance of choosing respectful behavior toward one another. Our
native American guest has a tremendous presence and a unique ability to get
his ancient messages across to his audience.

Jonathan Sprout visits our school in November and delivers a performance
focusing on the accomplishments of several great heroes. Through both
stories and song, Mr. Sprout introduces students to such inspiring people as
Clara Barton, Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman. His tunes are so
catchy we expect students and staff to be singing his songs long after the
show.

In January, the Emmy Award-winning 1970s Saturday morning cartoon series
that taught history, grammar, math and science through clever, tuneful songs
comes to our stage! Memorable songs combined with comical live action
guarantee an energetic and fun learning experience for all our students.
Schoolhouse Rock Live! is simply good, clean, and educational fun.

Just in time for our International Day, Dance Around the World comes to our
school February 22nd. Dances and dance stories from India, the Middle
East, Africa, the Caribbean, China, Italy, Russia, Poland and North America
are woven into a dynamic display of expressive movements, powerful rhythms
and rich colorful costumes.

Springs brings the animals to our stage this year. In April, the Mobile Ark
rolls into Warnsdorfer bringing animals that are sure to wow our students.
The program, entitled, “Best of all Worlds,” promises a mix on fascinating
mammals, reptiles and birds from around the world.

In May, the Penguins from Jenkinson’s Aquarium are back in town. We are so
excited to bring these beloved animals back to our school this year. As
part of Jenkinson’s educational series, the penguins, along with their
handlers, provide our students with a close-up, informative program focusing
on these lovable creatures.

We end the school year with a high energy performance from Steve Max, the
Simon Sez Guy! Steve’s show guarantees 100% audience participation as he
captures the students’ attention with a fast-paced and interesting multi-
sensory approach to an age-old game. By emphasizing many aspects of
listening during a simple game of Simon Sez, students learn listening skills
while laughing and enjoying every moment.
