When can I start to learn to play an instrument?

As of the 2009-2010 School Year, all seventh and eighth graders are urged to select any
instrument they are interested in, and will be assessed in order to be part of the marching band
program. Seventh and eighth grade students will have an opportunity learn to play these
instruments during their elective cycle which is part of their regularly scheduled day. These
instruments are supplied free of charge, to all seventh grade, eighth grade and high
school students by the Weehawken Board of Education.

How can I join the Weehawken High School Marching Band?

Anyone in grades 9-12,who shows a proficiency in playing an instrument can audition for the Marching Band.
Once accepted, students must then enroll in the Band Class. No student can be a member of the Band without taking the Band Class.
To participate in the Competition Marching Band, an additional audition is required
in order to see how well the student can play and march, as well as what level of dedication they are
willing to put forth to achieve an appropriate level of success.

How can you grade my child on after school attendance?

The main part of a performance based class is the performance. The absence of even one member
affects the entire groups performance; therefore the grades of all members will reflect attendance at
all required events.

How can I get involved in the school musical or play?

Simply submit your name and home room number to Mr. Lichtenfeld. Mr. Lichtenfeld will supply the
student with a short song from the play to sing. Be prepared to read a dialogue passage from a
supplied script and dance to selected music. Our director and staff will evaluate your talent and a
role will be given to you. Students can also work behind the scenes in the areas of Set
Construction, Artistry, Props, Lighting, Sound and Microphones, Tickets, Programs, and
Advertising. See Mr. Lichtenfeld for Details.
