How do I report my child's absence from school?
If your child will be absent please call the absentee phone line. At the
Middle School, the extension is 332, at the High School the extension is 235.
If you need to speak to the nurse please dial 340 (Middle School) and 240
(High School).
What if my child has a cast or brace or requires crutches at school?
Please notify the nurse's office if your child has had an injury requiring a
cast, brace or crutches. A note from the doctor must be brought to the
nurse's office. A doctors note is required if your child will be excused from
Physical Education for more than two days, or if they will require the use of
the elevator at the Middle School.
What is the policy for my child to receive medication during school?
Parents may send to school only those prescribed medications, which must be
taken during school hours. As much as possible, medications should be
dispensed at home and not sent into school. When it is neccessary to bring
medication to school, the medication must:
1. Be brought immediately to the nurse's office
2. Be prescribed medication in its legal container with the pharmacy label.
3. Be accompanied by a note from a parent/guardian
4. Be accompanied by a note from your doctor.
It is best to use the official school Administration of Medication forms.
These forms can be found on the district website, westex.org, click on FORMS
to the left and then look under Nurse. This rule applies to all medications,
even over the counter medications, ie. tylenol, advil etc. No exceptions.
When can my child return to school after a fever?
A child with a fever is expected to stay home until they are fever free for
24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicaton. If a child is sent
home with a fever he/she is to follow the same rules.
