How is my child being assessed?

We have an ongoing "Portfolio Assessment".  
Children are always assessed and taught at their own level. Your child�s 
grades are based on a variety of assessments that will demonstrate how well 
he/she understands a concept. The beginning of the year assessment & follow 
up assessments allow me to place your child. Grading will be done based on 
your child�s I.E.P. and progress made. 

On Report Cards								
	� 1st & 2nd grades I (independent), P (progressing), E (emerging)
			
 Independent:   The student demonstrates with relative ease, grasps, 
applies, and extends the key concepts, processes, and skills for the grade 
level.  The student consistently meets, and at times exceeds more 
depth/extension with near grade level work and/or is performing at a higher 
level.  
  	�       Consistently meets near grade level requirements 
        �       Understands, applies and transfers concepts or skills. 
        �       Performs using independent work habits 
  
Progressing: The student demonstrates proficiency in the vast majority of 
the level expectations.  The student, with limited errors, grasps and 
applies the key concepts, processes, and skills for their level.

Emerging:    The student is beginning to grasp and apply the key concepts,

What will happen if I forget my homework the next day?

We will arrange a time for you to make up the work and you will be given a
missing assignment note that must be signed by your parent.

How much time should I spend on my homework each night?

You should spend about 10- 30 minutes each night.

Can we bring water bottles to class?

Water bottles are welcome in class.  Water bottles have to stay on the 
counter top or in the frig.

Is there anything at home I can do to help my child?

1. Read, read, read.  Children learn to read by reading.  Depending on your 
child's level, you and/or your child can read together.  After you read 
discuss the story.  
2. Help your child read words in their environment.
3. Count things by ones, twos, fives, and tens.
4. Give your child paper to write letters, words, and their name.  
5. Have them make lists or write a letter to someone.
