Ms. Heggem’s Homework Packet-Example Cover Page
Homework packets will be passed out each Monday. The homework packet is due
each Friday but reading logs due daily. Students may need help with homework
at the beginning but keep in mind that as the year goes on, students will gain
more independence with homework. This is our goal, as third grade will bring
many new challenges and expectations. Students will need help studying
Fundations spelling patterns and trick words. Please check their work for
accuracy and Please initial that each night’s work was completed. Thank you
for working with your kids!

Friday-Nightly Reading. Have a Good Weekend!
***Extra Credit: Write 10 of your current or review words in ABC order on back
on your list or write 10 or more sentences using your Fundation words.
Students will be rewarded for completing any extra credit activity each week.
****New Fundations spelling list that is more user friendly. Lists will appear
in homework packets for two weeks in a row except Unit Three that last only
one week. Hope this is more clear!
Fundations: Unit One (Coming in next week's packet)
Concepts: drilling sounds, review of digraphs (sh, wh, th, ck, ch), blends
(two or three letters blended together but keep individual sound (pl, sl, sw,
tr, etc.), closed syllables (one short vowel followed by consonants), Spelling
of /k/ sound
Review Words: bun, bib, jab, kid
Current Words: rash, path, math, fish, much, rich, moth, sent, split, skim,
milk, pick, sock, shack, scrap, twist, quick
Trick Words to be memorized: No trick words for this unit. Review list sent
home at the beginning of the year.
**When studying the current and review words the student is working on
learning the spelling pattern not the word itself. They may not be the words
on the test. The trick words will be on the Friday quiz. These need to be
studied and memorized.
Practice sentences for Dictation and Marking:
Chad did a jog on the path.
Jack did not get much cash for that job.
Tim had a math quiz.
Kim hid in the shed.
Mom had to rush the pet to the vet.
Fred got stuck in the mud.
Rick had to sit on the bench.
We had lunch by the pond.
Brad is in the skit.
Dad went west on his trip.
**Week One**Choose 5 sentences to dictate to your child. They should write the
sentences on the attached lined paper. (Turn In Friday) When dictating, have
your child tap out each word as they write. Don’t forget to check for capitals
and periods!
**Week Two**Choose 5 sentences to mark. Students should mark each sound in
each word. Remember that digraphs would only have one line under them while
letters in blends make individual sounds. Mark short vowels with “smile.”
Turn In Friday.
Reading Log Format-Copy and complete each night in reading log.
