FAQ

Here are answers to some of the questions I am asked about computers at Bandelier.
  1. Can I donate my old computer to Bandelier?
  2. What happens to old computers no longer being used at Bandelier?

Can I donate my old computer to Bandelier?

Maybe. We have been very fortunate to receive funding which enables us
to keep our equipment fairly up-to-date. We've tried to minimize the
frustration inherent in using old, slow computers with inadequate memory or
hard drive space. So we have some minimum guidelines for donations:

Macs: G4 processor, 1GB memory, 80GB hard drive, CD-drive, firewire,
AirPort Extreme wireless installed, OS X 4 or 5.

Windows: Pentium 4 processor, 1GB memory, 80GB hard drive, CD-drive,
Windows XP Professional.

Due to generous donations in past years, we no longer need (or have space for)
any CRT displays. Donations of flat panel LCD display are gladly accepted!

What happens to old computers no longer being used at Bandelier?

Computers that are deemed too old to be useful or too difficult to service are
turned over to APS Materials Management for salvage. At Bandelier, we try to
get all the good out of them, recycling CD drives, memory and other parts for
computers that are still working. By the time we send them to salvage,
there's not much left!
