About The Teacher

I am in my eighth year at Bosque School, and I'm thrilled to be teaching
both Sophomore and Senior English. I received my undergraduate degree (in
English, Economics, and Theology--I couldn't decide and they spoke to each
other beautifully!) at the University of Notre Dame. I completed both a
masters and a doctoral degree in English at the University of New Mexico,
and because it was free, an executive MBA at UNM as well.

I found my way to Bosque after about ten years in the business world, and,
like Dorothy, I don't expect to leave home again anytime soon.

Mission For The Class

When I was not much older than the seniors, a good friend gave me a gift of
two questions that I've returned to throughout my life. The first was "What
is worth my life?" and the second was "How can I best love?"

Senior year seems to be all about making choices, making decisions, and
answering many specific questions about the future. In addition to all
the educational goals you'll find on my syllabus, I hope my class will
provide you with an opportunity to slow down, breathe deeply, enjoy the
present, and think big thoughts about big questions.

Sophomore year is (I hope!) still free from the pressure to think too
specifically about the future. I hope that you tenth graders will find that
my class helps you think about who you are right now and how you want to
live in your world. If all goes as I plan, English class will be both a
refuge and a launchpad. I can't wait to get started together!
