Mask History Assignment 2009-2010 7th grade drama We will be beginning our study of masks this week. Your first job is to research the history of masks and present your findings to the class. You may use whatever sources you can find for your research, but remember to cite your sources using MLA guidelines. Plagiarism will not be tolerated. I. Choose a type of mask that you would like to research. Some ideas are: a. Ancient Greek Theatrical Masks b. Venice Carnival Masks c. Commedia Dell’arte Masks d. Japanese Noh Theatre Masks e. African Masks f. Wooden masks from Bali g. Hopi Kachina Masks h. Masks from New Guinea II. You will be placed into groups of 4 or 5 depending on your mask interest. III. Create a one page list of facts about your mask type. These should be numbered and appropriately cited. Single spaced and Times New Roman 12 pt. font. You will turn this in with your final presentation. IV. Create a group presentation based on the facts you have accumulated. The presentation should be equally shared among all members in the group. Be creative!!! Do not read your fact sheet. Know your information. V. You should include pictures in your presentation and it should be informative, educational, and FUN! You will be graded on both your research as well as the creativity of the group presentation. Please include the following information: a. What was the purpose of the mask? Why did people wear them? b. What is the origin of the mask? Why did it start? How did it come about? c. What was the wildest or most bizarre thing you learned about masks in your research? d. Photos of the different types of masks that were used and the purpose of each. The due date for this assignment is Tuesday, September 15, 2009.
