Kevin Cummins teaches 9th and 11th grade English and advises the Bosque School
newspaper. A runner, biker, parent, and spouse, he was born in Rockaway
Beach, Queens, raised in western New York, beside the Erie Canal, and educated
in Vermont, at Middlebury College and the Vermont Studio Center. He has
taught at independent schools in New York, Connecticut, the Caribbean, and
California.
Our work is to listen to each other, to express our thoughts openly—both
orally and on paper—and to respect the class as a safe zone. Our work is a
form of play. We play with ideas, we discuss, and we argue. In order for
them to matter, we must engage our ideas not only with our minds but also with
our hearts. Our class discussions only matter if we contribute to them with
our emotions, our feelings, our hearts.
