The course uses Connected Mathematics, a middle school series developed with
funding from the National Science Foundation. This integrated curriculum helps
students develop understanding of important concepts, skills, procedures, and
ways of thinking and reasoning. Topics covered include linear, exponential,
and quadratic functions, area, volume, and perimeter of polygons and solids,
and writing and solving equations and inequalities. Conceptual learning is
balanced with ongoing skills review. These include operations with whole
numbers, fractions, decimals, exponents and percents. For the complete
syllabus, go to the "handouts" link.
[The universe] cannot be read until we have learnt the language and become
familiar with the characters in which it is written. It is written in
mathematical language, and the letters are triangles, circles and other
geometrical figures, without which means it is humanly impossible to comprehend
a single word.
Galilei, Galileo (1564 - 1642)
