A shoe designed for style more than function is not appropriate. A shoe with proper arch and ankle support is best. Recommended types for outdoor/indoor work- running shoe, trail running shoe, cross trainers. Recommended types for indoor work - basketball or cross trainer. Chuck -Ts, DC's, Vans and the like are never a good choice. Invest in a good pair of the above recommended shoe, keep them in your bag, and you'll be set. Water bottle.
