HOORAY for 6th grade science!
Fall is upon us, and we are scittering outside to learn 18 common plants in
the bosque before they senesce (a great science word!) for the winter. We
are using the science skills of observation and data recording to identify
some key plant characteristics, and then applying this knowledge to describe
and identify the common plants.
These are the topics & assignments we will be working on for all science
classes:
September 28 - October 2 = * Plant Identification & Plant Journals
(HINT: We'll be in the field a bunch!)
October 5 - October 7 = *More Plant Identification & Plant Journals
October 8 - 9 = FALL BREAK (No classes!)
Assignments that will be due in class or as homework (if not completed in
class):
1. Plant Parts Scavenger Hunt
2. Plant Journals
MISSED OR CORRECTED WORK: All missed work due to absences and work that a
student wants to correct and resubmit are due on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2 by the end
of the day. Please see me if you need to make up any work or if you have any
questions about work that you want to correct.
SCIENCE BINDERS:
With midterm progress reports quickly approaching, all 6th graders must turn
in their Science Binders for review. Students received the rubric for their
binders on September 29 (6B, 6C, 6D), September 30 (6A), and October 1 (6E).
Except for 6E, students' homework is to use the rubric to make sure their
science binders are COMPLETE and ORGANIZED. The rubric for this mid-term
review is posted on my webpage under "Assignments and Handouts." If you have
any questions about how to organize your science binder, please feel free to
see me during any Activity Block this week.
Science binders are due when the students walk into class! Due dates are:
October 1: 6C, 6E
October 2: 6A, 6B, 6D
PARENTS: If you want to know what your students are doing on any particular
science day, please check their planner. They should have the day's agenda
written down for each time we meet for science class.
