Current Science Topics small medium large November is the month for Plants! We are continuing our discussion of plant processes... that is, how plants function & survive, and why that is important to us. We have studied photosynthesis, and are now moving into flowering plant reproduction, followed by plant transport (how plants move things around in their body). We will continue to study plants until the end of the semester. Following are the topics & assignments we have been and will be working on for all science classes. If you have any questions about whether your student has turned in a particular assignment, please feel free to contact me. Thanks! PLANT PROCESSES: November 9 - 13 = Food for Plants (how do you know if something is "food?") A Walk Through Photosynthesis (a science drama!) Photosynthesis Exit Ticket November 16 - 20 = BEMP MONTHLY MONITORING (Check your field schedule!) Giant Sequoia POD (the last word on photosynthesis) Flowers & Dinosaurs (begins flowering plant reproduction) Plant Reproduction (or, literally, the birds & the bees) Bread & Jam POD (YUMMY!!!) November 23-24 = Finish Flowers & Dinosaurs, Plant Reproduction, Bread & Jam Begin Flower Dissection Labs Begin Flower Models November 24 = GRANDPARENT'S DAY!! Welcome to all our wonderful Grandparents! November 25-27 = THANKSGIVING BREAK! HAVE A JOYFUL THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY!!!!!! November 30-December 4 = Flowering Plant Reproduction: 1. Flower Dissection Lab 2. Flower Models 3. Pollination of Flowers (Mystery Pollinator) December 7-11 = Complete Flowering Plant Reproduction 1. Mystery Pollinator Jigsaw 2. Pollination Webquest Plant Transport (how plants move things in their bodies) 1. Notes & in-class worksheet *SCIENCE BINDERS DUE! Assignments related to Plant Processes that have been or will be due in class or as homework (if not completed in class): 1. Food For Plants POD (in class assignment) 2. Photosynthesis Exit Ticket (in class assignment) 3. Giant Sequoia POD (in class assignment) 4. Bread & Jam POD (in class assignment - don't miss this one!!!!) 5. Flower Dissection Lab sheet (in class assignment; finish as homework) 6. Flower Model (in class assignment; finish as homework if necessary) 7. Mystery Pollinator Jigsaw (in class assignment; finish as homework) 8. Pollination Webquest (homework assignment) 9. SCIENCE BINDERS MISSED OR CORRECTED WORK: All missed work due to absences are due within 2 weeks of when you return to school (if not sooner... check with me!). It is your responsibility to see me to determine what you missed in class and what work you need to make up. Any assignment that a student wants to correct and resubmit is due within two weeks of when I return the graded assignment to you. Please see me if you need to make up any work or if you have any questions about work that you want to correct. PARENTS: If you want to know what your students are doing on any particular science day, please check their planner.
