You must write a 4-page paper on the genetic disease of your choice.
This paper will be worth 150 points.
You must turn in both a hard and electronic copy to me and the electronic
copy should be emailed to smaho@bosqueschool.org
THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS MADE FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DO NOT HAVE YOUR PAPER
AVAILABLE ON THE DUE DATE. If you are absent of the due date, your
electronic copy is still due on this date. You may turn in your unaltered
hard copy the day that you return to school.
As with other forms of assessment, I would be happy to preview your paper
before the due date to help you. This does not guarantee 100%. I will NOT
edit your paper for grammar, punctuation, and spelling. However, you will be
graded on these things. You must READ and REREAD your paper many times to
assure full credit. I would also suggest having another person read your
paper to help you find these small errors.
Your paper must be or include:
Typed and with 12 point font in Times New Roman
double spaced
The first page starts at the top, it does not include your name or
any of that jazz- this belongs on the cover page.
The fourth page may end withtin 2 inches of the bottom
formatted with standard margins; do not alter the margins to make the
paper look longer
not spaced between paragraphs
at least four pages, no more than six pages (this does not include
your title page and your bibliography)
a bibliography
a title page
proper MLA citation from at lest 4 sources. Papers containing
plagiarism will receive a grade no higher than an F and they may receive a
ZERO. If you are unsure if it is plagiarism, ask me!!!
Not contain more than two direct quotes and only one of these may be
longer than three lines.
Complete sentences with no bullets or listing
Be turned in in both a hard and electronic copy
The following information needs to be in your paper
Statement of why you chose this topic
Which type of mutation occurs and why
If it is chromosomal, in which chromosome pair does it appear?
What the physical characteristics of the disease are
Any direct effects the condition has on the persons mental stability
Life expectancy
Frequency in the population
Any discriminating factors involved, i.e. does it effect a certain
race, gender or age group
Possible treatment of the disease
Anything else relevant to your disease
If your disorder does not affect one of the above, say it! Please
acknowledge each bullet point in your paper.

Power point project
You should do this presentation on the same disorder you used for your
research paper. You will present a 5 minute power point presentation about
this disease on your assigned due date. This will be an oral presentation,
so dress and manner are expected to comply with public speaking expectations.
You will be timed, and penalties will be taken off for presentations that are
shorter than 4.5 minutes or longer than 5.5 minutes. This presentation will
be worth 100 points. Your peers and I will evaluate you on this project. My
grade will count for 80% of your total grade and your peers will count as
20%. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS MADE FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DO NOT HAVE
YOUR PRESENTATION AVAILABLE ON YOUR DUE DATE. ONLY EXCUSED ABSENCES WILL
SAVE YOU FROM THE WRATH OF THE ZERO.
Your presentation should be emailed to me 48 hours before it is due. You
will use the emailed copy to do your presentation.
If you miss the class of presentation because you have an excused abence,
your presentation is due the NEXT DAY you return to school.
As with other forms of assessment, I would be happy to preview your
presentation before the due date to help you.

MENTION IT IN YOUR PRESENTATION.

Graphics and or pictures as needed
Conclusion
Bibliography (you may not go over this slide during your five minutes)
Because you have already cited the information in your paper, you do not need
to cite the information in your presentation. However, you should remember
that pictures and images are just like ideas. Any pictures that you did not
take or make must be cited in the picture.
