August 21-22 Answer the question "Is fire alive?" by systematically
going through each of the characteristics defined in class. Do not just
answer yes or no, give a thorough explanation as to why you chose yes or no
for each explanation. At the end, make a conclusion as to whether or not you
think fire is alive. There is no page limit for this, just answer the
question.

Protein Homework- Due next class period
Answer on a separate sheet of paper.
1.	What is the root of the word “protein”? What language does it come
from and what is its translation to English?
2.	What is the name of the monomers that makes up proteins? How do they
form proteins? What kind of bond do they create?
3.	Give three examples of proteins in the human body and what they form
or what their function is.
4.	Why do proteins fold and what role does their folding play in their
function?
5.	What are enzymes and what is their main purpose?
6.	What does it mean to be denatured? What is one example of a
denatured protein?
7.	7. Draw a model of an enzyme and two substrates before and after the
enzyme has catalyzed them. Label the enzyme, substrates and active sites.
8.	Draw 4 different amino acids. Label the amino group, the carboxyl
group and the functional group of the amino acid.
9.	Pick two different amino acids and join them together in a peptide
bond. Show any byproducts of the bond. Label the amino acids, the peptide
bond and the byproducts

September 22-23
Answer the following questions.
Is margerine a saturated or unsaturated fat? How is magerine made from oil?
Don't tell me the whole process, just the parts that are significant to
organic chemistry.

October 2-3,
Link together 8 nucleotides for deoxyribonucleic acid to form one strand.
For the nitrogenous bases, use each of them twice (skipping uracil because
its only in DNA).
