About The Teacher

Mr. Middleton teaches PreCalculus, STAM (statistics & applied math), and
Calculus. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1990 with a Bachelor of
Science degree in mathematics education, and then taught college-prep math
courses for 11 years at a public high school in Austin. Throughout the school
year and during the summers, his experiences outside the classroom included
working at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory in California, leading
teacher-training workshops about alternative assessment projects and graphing
calculator instruction, attending a National Science Foundation seminar
regarding discrete math, and working as a consultant with the College Board’s
Advanced Placement program. In 2001, Mr. Middleton’s interest in backpacking
inspired him to move to New Mexico, where he obtained a Master of Science
degree at UNM in pure mathematics and mathematics education. For the last
three summers, he has also worked at Manzano Mountain Retreat as a ropes
course facilitator (challenge courses on logs and wires to develop teamwork
and self-confidence). Mr. Middleton enters his 20th year of teaching in
2009-2010! In addition to his intense love for making math fun, Mr. Middleton
enjoys hiking, backpacking, biking, snowshoeing, kayaking, and snowboarding.
