Do my kids have homework?

Yes they do! The students will have math practice/homework
Monday-Thursday
evenings. This will normally be a review and/or practice of the
weekly math
skills that we are working on in the classroom. The assigned
homework is
meant to keep skills fresh and should take no more than 20-30
minutes. We
will review the homework every morning just in case a student is
stuck on a
particular area of the practice. I will not send homework on
Friday.

There is plenty of class time to get all assigned work done. I
do not believe
in loading students down with work to do at home. Therefore, if
they are
focused, productive, and working responsibly during their alloted
class time,
there will be no other work sent home. However, if the student
has missed
school or has not used their time in class wisely, they may come
home with
additional work to make up or finish. If there is a concern, I
will contact
you personally.

Can I come into the classroom?

You bet! I welcome parents any time to come and see what is
going on. Beware..........you just may be put to work.

Why do you make the kids tuck their shirts in and hassle them about what they wear?

This is a cut-and-dry issue and a decision that teachers do not
make. No teacher at Cameo or in the district wants to or chooses
to "hassle" child over clothing. The Clovis Municipal Schools
district policy states that all shirts that are below the crotch
line be tucked in. Because we are all different shapes and
sizes, if you have your student hold one leg up, the crease in
the upper leg is the crotch line. In addition, pants must fit at
the waist.

I will have a couple of belts in the classroom and the office
keeps zip ties for students whose pants are sagging. I WILL NOT
tolerate sagging and/or clothing that is disrespectful,
distasteful, or offensive to anyone. In addition, this includes
clothing that is appropriate for the weather and time of year. I
ask that you support me and the school by making sure your
student is dressed properly for school everyday.

What is so important about making appointments after school?

We have carefully schedule every possible moment of the day for
crucial instruction that will help every student develop and
master all skills needed for success. Anytime a student is
absent for/or leaves for an appointment during this important
learning time, he or she misses vital instruction. It is
difficult for students, parents, and the teacher to find the time
to re-teach or catch the student up on what they have missed.

We have also scheduled time for intervention in particular areas
of reading and math for students who are behind or not working at
grade level. This time is written into our daily schedule and
will be utilized. We are asking for your support in getting your
child to school no later than 8:00 a.m. and in making all
appointments after school if possible.
