About Your Teacher

Welcome to Cameo Elementary School and to my class! This will be my 9th year
at Cameo and I am passionate about the staff, students, families, and
surrounding community. No doubt, it's going to be a fantastic year at
Cameo!

I live in Friona, Texas (about35 miles west of Clovis) and am married to Joe
Cunningham. We have a business in Friona called Cunningham Electric/21st
Century Engines. My husband builds and sets natural gas engines that are
used to pump water from our underground aquifer (the Ogallala). He's been
instrumental in providing our area with a more environmentally-friendly
engine that we have nicknamed the "lean-burn." Our local farmers and dairies
use this water to grow their crops to feed not only their animals, but us as
well!

I have 4 grown children ( 2 handsome sons, one step-son and 1 beautiful step-
daughter). I am also a grandma to 3 grandsons. Riley is 6 and getting
ready for 1st this year. He lives here in Friona and I'm so lucky to
be a full-time grandma to him. Jacob is 2 1/2 and Lucas is 1. They both
live in Dallas.

My oldest son just separated from the Marine Corps and is currently attending
Amarillo Collge. He is stuying in the Wind Energy program and will soon be
climbing the huge wind turbines to check and make sure they are running
correctly. The other is in the Specialist in the US Army and a member of the
famous 1st Calvary division, stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas. He is currently
serving his country in Iraq.

When I'm not teaching, I'm busy gardening, swimming, painting, writing, being
a grandma, and most importantly, running my "zoo at home." Since my kids are
grown and have left the nest, my animals and my students have become
my "babies!" I have 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 4 parrots that keep me plenty busy!

I received my Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1992 from
the University of Alaska Fairbanks (yes, I used to live there and YES IT'S
COLD!).I went back to school in 1997 and received my Bachelor's Degree in
Business from the University of Phoenix in 2000. And....as if that wasn't
enough I went back to school in 2002 and received my Master's of Education
Degree in Instructional Technology from West Texas State University in 2005.
I enjoy implementing technology in the classroom and am dedicated to exposing
the students to as much computer time both within the lab and in the
classroom. We are very fortunate at Cameo to have 2 brand new computer labs
this year!

My teaching style consists of a variety of techniques that encourage,
stimulate, and engage students on many different levels. I am an advocate
for collaborative teaching and learning and will be working closely with
other specialists and grade-levels for enhanced learning. My expectations
for yourstudent are high and I will do whatever it takes to excite them
enough to wantto learn while stabilizing a respectful relationship between
home and school. I've found that if I hold students accountable that they
will want to do their best as they get excited over their responsibilities of
monitoring their individual growth and progress in 5th grade.

Mission For The Class

All students in Mrs. Cunningham's class will work and learn together in a
cooperative manner in order to be productive, safe and kind citizens that
practice self-control.

        Whose Child Is This?

"Whose child is this?" I asked one day
Seeing a little one out at play.
"Mine", said the parent with a tender smile
"Mine to keep a little while.
To bathe her hands and comb her hair,
To tell her what she is to wear,
To prepare her that she may always be good,
And each day do the things she should".

"Whose child is this?" I asked again,
As the door opened and someone came in.
"Mine", said the teacher with the same tender smile.
"Mine, to keep just for a little while.
To teach him how to be gentle and kind,
To train and direct his dear little mind,
To help him live by every rule,
And get the best he can from school".

"Whose child is this?" I asked once more,
Just as the little one entered the door.
"Ours", said the parent and the teacher as they smiled.
And each took the hand of the little child.
"Ours to love and train together.
        Ours this blessed task forever."
