Welcome back to a new school year at Double Eagle and to Mrs. Karas'
group of classy kids. I am so very excited to begin learning with,
exploring, and teaching each and every individual in my class. Let me begin
by telling you a little bit about myself.
As a child I was surrounded by educators. Through these experiences I
inherited a passion for teaching, knowledge and children. I received my
bachelors and masters degrees in education in Buffalo, NY (and survived the
blizzards!). Since then I have lived in and taught in three different
states; New York, Washington, and New Mexico. My experiences working in a
number of different school districts and many schools have contributed to my
abilities as an educator. My several years experience working in both
special and regular education has helped me develop an ability to
individualize across the curriculum to all students.
I am passionate about education and take every opportunity to learn and
grow personally and professionally. I am a strong believer that education
is never over, especially for the educator. Children learn through and are
motivated by meaningful experiences. I strive to provide a stimulating
classroom environment with materials and activities selected to challenge my
students. My curriculum is integrated, language-based, and literature-
based using a hands-on approach to learning involving a wide variety of
manipulatives, particularly for math and science.
As an educator and as a parent, I have learned the importance of
community involvement. Parents must be kept abreast of and involved in the
teaching process so that they can be active partners in the education of
their children. I am fortunate to work in a school where parents are
willing to take an active role and look forward to working together this
coming year.
"Good teachers just don't happen, they are the product of the highest
personal motivation." ~ Dwight D. Eisenhower
