Dear Families,

Last week we wrapped up our fifth unit in Everyday Math and tested on Friday.  The tests will be sent home to be signed and returned later this week.  Over the next two weeks we will be working hard on our last unit of the semester.  The Unit 6 Family Letter came home in Friday Folders and we will begin working on these concepts starting Monday.  I am so proud of all the hard work the students have put forth with math this year.  They are learning many new concepts and doing very well with that material.  As a teacher it is exciting to see how well Everyday Math is working for our students and how much more they are learning and understanding.

This week we will also wrap up our chemistry unit in science.  Our last lesson is the Polymer Lab and the kids will be bringing home their creations.  I hope you all enjoyed building the balance scales at home.  I have tried over the last three years to send home one activity per unit for you all to enjoy with your child.  The kits allow us to teach through hands on activities, experiments, and explorations and this makes learning fun.  We will be testing on this unit the last week of school.  Social Studies will be a big focus next semester.  We will be working on the Regions of the United States, economics, and geography and how they are interconnected.

We are continuing to work very hard toward our fourth grade goals in spelling, reading, and writing.  The students have been working on different pieces in writing and we will continue to use those pieces to build strength in areas of need for each individual student.  I have noticed a huge improvement with spelling in class activities, homework, reading response journals, and writing.  In the second half of the year the students will begin working with different genres of literature, authors and research topics with different groups of students.

There are some events that will be taking place over the next two weeks so please continue to check the calendar on the class webpage.  Our class did an awesome job of collecting clothing for the clothing drive and they won a pizza party that will be held some time this week.  On Wednesday, December 16th the class will be having lunch and a going away celebration for one of our students.  Later that week on the 18th the class will go bowling with the rest of the fourth grade classes.  I will be sending home the information as soon as I receive it.  If you are interested in riding the bus please email and let me know.  All parents are welcome.

The next two weeks will go by very quickly so I will keep you informed on events through email and the class webpage calendar.
