About The Teacher Label:
About The Teacher
Frederick Douglass, author, orator, statesman, reformer, and former slave understood the importance of reading and education. He knew that to be able to read meant freedom in many different forms. This concept is still true 150 years later. Douglass believed that “it is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.” I believe in that philosophy too. The goal of education is to enrich our lives, become aware of our surroundings, empathize with the unknown, and strive for betterment of all people in this changing local and global world of ours. My role as a teacher is to facilitate discovery and understanding. I am a mentor and a guide, but I am also a pupil, a life long student. I have a natural and genuine curiosity of people. In my classroom, it is a safe and nurturing environment where students and their ideas are treated with respect and kindness. I am a facilitator not a dictator in the classroom. The teacher and the students establish rules cooperatively. Students know and understand the clear guidelines and consequences of their behavior by implementing a Code of Conduct for the classroom environment. As the teacher, I will model desired behavior such as respect for everyone and community building. My students are in a risk- free environment, safe from any ridicule. We are a classroom community that cultivates and reflects the importance of the surrounding community. It is my job as a facilitator of knowledge to make sure each student has the best educational experience possible. I believe in an integrated curriculum. One subject touches on so many other subjects; themes are easily integrated to produce thoughtful multifaceted students. I believe that it is important for students to learn how to use the tools and strategies I provide to construct a personal understanding of content. I want each child that walks into my classroom to succeed and become responsible and reflective individuals. I want what is best for all of my students. I am committed to furthering my education as well as my students for countless years to come. Thank you for visiting my class's website!
