Classroom Policies

Selena’s Class Policies

Daily Schedule: See attached page

Homework Policy: - Most weeks, students will receive a homework packet at the beginning of the week. The cover sheet attached to the packet will instruct you and your student on when things are due during the week. Homework packets will contain a variety of lessons that correspond with what we have been working on in class.

- In addition to the packet, at times there will be homework that goes home and is to be returned the next day.

- Any class work that is not finished will be sent home to complete and to be turned in the next school day.

- If homework is not turned in on the day that it is due, the student will have to stay in at recess to finish the work. (I understand that things do happen every once in awhile-please write me a quick note if you find yourself in a bind)

Nightly Reading: - Your child will need to read every night for 30 minutes. Your child will be given a log sheet to record what he/she has read and for how many minutes.

- Book Bingo: Students will be given 9 weeks to complete 5 books and book summaries. See attached paper for more instructions on book bingo.

Homework Folder: - Your child’s homework folder will be located inside of his/her 3 ring binder. - Every night it is very important that you check your child’s homework folder. It will contain homework/unfinished class work and informational papers for the parents to read.

Absent/Make-Up Work: - If your student is absent please call the office to report absence. - If your student is absent, on their return to school they will need to check the make-up work folder. This folder will contain all their make-up work and they will have the same number of days to complete the work as they were absent. (folder is located on the cubby wall next to the door)

Discipline Policy: -I expect students to behave in ways appropriate to fifth graders. Students will receive warnings when behavior is unacceptable. If more than 3 warnings are necessary for the day, the student will write a paragraph explaining their behavior and a phone call will be made to the parents. Parents will need to sign the paper and have it returned the next day. If behavior is unacceptable I will immediately call a parent. Students will follow the school-wide discipline plan.

Progress Reports: - I use a computer program, Easy Grade Pro, to record all grades. This program allows for efficient records and time management. - Progress reports will be sent midway through each quarter to keep you up to date on your student’s progress.

Agendas: - Students will be given an agenda for the year. Every morning they will write down the days assignments and homework. - At the end of each day/week take a look at their agenda. This will let you know what is happening in the academic areas of the classroom. It also takes away the “I didn’t do anything” or “ I don’t know” answer to the question “what did you do today?”

Monthly Newsletter: - I will send home a newsletter at the beginning of each month. It is important that you go over the newsletter with your child. The newsletter will have important information such as, the month project, special events and dates, etc.

Grading Scale: 90-100 A, 80-89 B, 70-79 C, 60-69 D, 59 and below F

Parent-Teacher Contact: - The best way to get a hold of me is through the school telephone, 268-3520, leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible. You may also write me a quick note or stop in at the classroom. I don’t check E-Mail that often so this is not a good tool to use.
