Our Scholastic book order flyers will be sent home
very soon. Please consider purchasing books for your child from this month's
selection. December's orders are due by Tuesday, December 15. There are
two ways to purchase books:
1. Complete the order form on the flyer and send it
to school with your payment (cash or check).
OR
2. Visit the Scholastic Parent Ordering website by
clicking here. Use our
username: RomerosReaders

Books usually arrive within a week and your
purchases help earn points for our classroom to spend on additional books and
learning materials.
Our assessment window for reading and math has
closed. Our students performed very well on both assessments. For the DRA
reading assessment we had 1 child reading at an independent level of 3, 9
students at level 4, 4 students at level 6, 1 child each at levels 8, 10, 12,
and 2 students reading at level 14. For the DBA math assessment, we had 6
students score nearing proficient, 8 students score proficient, and 5 students
score advanced.
We will be having our annual Gingerbread House
Project on Friday, December 18. A letter explaining the project will be sent
home this week.
The students' reports and dioramas on their chosen
New Mexico wild animals were outstanding. Look for pictures of the dioramas to
be posted on this website very soon.
Parents often ask what supplies we need on a
regular basis. Dry-erase markers and small prizes for our class store are two
items we need throughout the school year. If you are interested in helping us
get items from our Wish List, you can visit that page by clicking here.
Our Million Word Campaign for the 2009-2010 school
year is well underway! You can find your child's log in their agenda. Remember
that in first grade our goal is to read more than 25 books by the end of the
school year, which will equal about a million words! For more information on
the Million Word Campaign, please click here.
