Can I send/bring a treat for my child's birthday?

Yes, I allow this, in fact it is really fun. I have my students sing several
versions of Happy Birthday. If you send/bring a cake please supply
plates/forks for students. The same goes for drinks, if they are not
indivilually contained please provide cups. Thank you

If my child is absent; how does he or she make up work?

APS teachers provide make up work after child returns to school. Child is
given same amount of days to return it as days missed. I usually send
homework packets that were missed only.

How do you grade papers?

I grade by observing my students as they do their class assignments--I take
notes about comprehension/finishing work etc...
I look at how each child is progressing as opposed to grading each
assignment--in second grade it often takes students several attempts and
several days or weeks to grasp new concepts. I send home a "Homework Rubric"
to reflect how your child is doing on their weekly Homework packet.

How do I find out about upcoming events, such as, field trips, etc...?

First always check out this site for updates. I also send a class newletter
entitled "Second Grade News". This newsletter always has
upcoming events listed, weekly schedules listed--when library book is due--
etc... I also talk about units we are doing in class and I publish student
poems.

Do you allow parents to volunteer in your room?

Of course, I encourage it in fact. I have parents that come in on a regular
basis to volunteer and I also have parents come in when they can.

Can I eat lunch at school with my child?

Yes, just let me know by 9:10 of the day you will be eating with your child
so I can include you in our class lunch count. An adult tray costs $3.00.
Our class eats lunch everyday from 11:00 to 11:30.

How do I turn music on and off on the home page?

Just go to the little player under the quote at bottom of Home page and
click on the top button on the left (this acts as a toggle switch, you can
turn music back on by clicking on it again). I periodically change the tune
and I run a class contest to see who can tell me the title of the new song.

How do I know when pages and information on the class site have been updated?

The "Announcement Page" always lists when there is new student work,
calendars, pictures, etc...posted.

Why is there a viewer code on some pages?

I put a viewer code on pages that have names of students, such as,
newletters and student work pages. I also normally put a viewer code on
student picture pages. This is for security. I give the viewer code only to
student family members.
