Updates:Oops--I have busy updating everything the last two weeks and I forgot to put announcements about them. So here goes...The December Newsletter has been on since the first of the month. My students wrote "Christmas is..." poems a couple of weeks ago--these poems are posted on the Student Work page (viewer code is necessary). Class Book Club and 50 State Postcard Exchange are both updated. And finally, a new page my class already knows about--Winter Fun. This page has several links that truly are amazing. P.S. there is also one more new page--December Photo Album--this is a Slide picture presentation of some of my student's Literacy Projects which they presented on Monday of this week.
For our Christmas party remember to send a new toy wrapped ($15.00 or under) for our class gift exchange, also send 6 homemade or bakery cookies for our class cookie exchange. Thanks
The Class Newsletter, Postcard Exchange, Class Book Club, and Homework pages have all been updated.
The class has been working toward their first "group" reward of the year. They earned it this week. They all had to work together to earn it. My students voted for a Pajama Day--so next Wednesday October 1st your child can wear their pajamas to school and bring a favorite stuffed animal. Make sure your child also brings their street shoes. Thanks
It was listed on this site on the calendar page and also in my September newsletter that there is no school on September 18th because of an in-service day. This information is incorrect. There will be school on September 18th. Sorry for the confusion.
I have posted September's Newsletter on the Class Newsletter page--check it out. If you have lost viewer code send me a note or email and I will send it to you.
If you have not yet done so please send in a $5.00 check (made out to Weekly Reader) for our class "Weekly Reader." I will be ordering them soon. This $5.00 does not cover the entire cost but it helps me buy them for the year. Thank you.
I have put a page that explains the Fundations Reading Program I will be teaching this year. Those of you whose children were at Sierra Vista in first grade are familiar with this program. In second grade Fundations continues to build upon the phonetic skills your child needs to be successful in reading and spelling. Next Monday is Labor Day so there is no school. We have P.E. this year on Wednesdays and Fridays--please make sure your child dresses out on these two days. We have Library for the first time this week. Library books are due back by Thursday morning this year. Good news-- we will have art class this year every week instead of every other week.
Check out the Fix-Up Strategies on our Literacy Strategies Page.
The powerpoints I have put on are for my use in the classroom. You are more then welcome to review them with your child but this is not required. I have put a Spelling menu (tic tac toe) on which provides suggestions on how to make spelling practice fun for your child.
I have put information on Literacy Activities page on how to choose a "Just Right" book for your child to read.
Several of you requested at the Meet and Greet last week I put a recommended list of book titles for your children to read on this site. Go to the link's page scroll down to the last two entries: the first one recommends 2nd grade picture book titles, the next link recommends 2nd grade chapter book titles to read.
This page is where you should always check first. For instance, if there are new photos or student work samples displayed I announce it here. Thank you, Ms. Lamkin
