What can I do to make up my grade?
Well, um... not sure if this is good English, but I'll try
to answer it anyway. First, I don't believe in giving extra credit as a
remedy for someone who doesn't do what they are supposed to, when they are
supposed to. If you were absent, I'll take make up work within a reasonable
amount of time. If you were present in class, on any
particular day, but failed to do and turn in your work, that's another
story. I don't take late work unless you've made arrangements with me and I
don't make arrangements unless there is a valid reason for doing so. The
reason for this? I want students to realize they CANNOT afford
to waste valuable class time, but must use it wisely. Extra Credit? What's
that? Oh, yeah right... that's what I only give to students who go above
and beyond what they are supposed to do. If someone does a superb job on a
homework assignment, drawing, etc., I'll tack on a few points, but I don't
give extra credit to people who are missing assignments.
--------------------------------------
Do you have kids?
Yes, I have a 12 year old daughter and an 8 year old son.
--------------------------------------
Can we have a free day today?
No, never, nein, nunca... not a chance. If society wanted you to have a
free day they would have declared it a national holiday today. However,
since there is school, then society expects you to take advantage of the
opportunity to learn and improve the person you are.

Can I go to my locker?
This question tells me that you came to class unprepared. I'm sure you have
a good explanation for why YOU came UNPREPARED, but you are still
unprepared. Let me ask YOU a
question: What do you have to do in order to come prepared to class EVERY
day?
--------------------------------------
Can I do extra credit work?
Extra Credit? What's that? Oh, yeah right... that's what I give only to
students who go above and beyond what they are supposed to do. If someone
does a superb job on a homework assignment, drawing, etc., I'll tack on some
points, but I refuse to give extra credit to people as a remedy for poor
performance.
--------------------------------------
What time is this class over?
What do I look like? An alarm clock? YOU have an agenda! Check the
schedule yourself! It's on page 10.
--------------------------------------
How old are you?
That depends...
--------------------------------------
Are you in a bad mood today?
Probably... and it gets worse when people ask, "Are you in a bad mood today?"
--------------------------------------
When can I have my phone back?
Your parents can pick it up after 24 hours from the office. Then they (your
parents) can decide if and when they want you to get it back.
--------------------------------------
Can you p-l-e-a-s-e give me one chance and not take my phone away this time?
No.
--------------------------------------
When can I have my earphones back?
On a Friday of my choosing. If convenient to me. So, don't use them in
class when I am talking to the class or even look like I am talking to the
class. If I want you to use earphones in class, I'll tell you that you
can. ... And NO you CANNOT listen to your IPOD AND to me. ... And even if
it's possible, I won't allow it.
