Grade 4 French Immersion teacher @ Bridgewater Elementary School, Bridgewater, NS

Bonjour! My name is Alisa Johnson and I am thrilled to be your Grade 4 French Immersion teacher this year! This will be my fifth consecutive year here at BES, and my third year teaching Grade 4 French Immersion. I also taught Grades 3-6 Core French and Health for two years ahead of that, as well as Grade 3 in 2011/12.

I have been teaching with the South Shore Regional School Board for 12 years. The schools in which I have taught include Hebbville, Centre (now Bluenose Academy), Gold River, and Bayview. Prior to moving to Nova Scotia in 2005, I taught Grades 4 and 5 for six years with the Dufferin-Peel District School Board in Mississauga, Ontario. I received my Bachelor Of Recreation Administration from Dalhousie University, and my Bachelor of Education Degree from York University in Toronto.

I have been fortunate enough to live in many places including the United States, Germany, and several provinces in Canada (Alberta, Ontario, and New Brunswick).

Currently, I live just outside Lunenburg with my husband and two daughters. We love living close to the beach and can often be found on hiking trails and enjoying the great outdoors. When we are not outside, we like to play board games and cook. I also love to read, run, bike, travel and eat!

My love for teaching children began as a Camp Counsellor with the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation when I was in my late teens. I have worked with children ever since in many different capacities. I am passionate about instilling a love of learning in children that will carry on into their adult life. I also believe in the importance of building positive, caring relationships with others, and maximizing their opportunities for building self-esteem.

I am looking forward to making meaningful connections with your children this year and developing their love of all things French!!
