For those of you that I have yet to meet, may I warmly welcome you into our
classroom family. It is my hope that by the end of our school year, we will
have melded a group of children and families into friendships that might
last for life. Our classroom door into Room 74 will always be open. As a
team, we will together nuture your child academically, socially and
emotionally within the classroom setting. Never hesitate to stop by to ask a
question, or share your thoughts on anything that might help me to better
know and work with your child. Your parent input is most valuable to me as I
work with children.
I am the daughter of a Minnesota teacher who began my love of teaching the
young child along side of, and learning from, my mother. She consistently
mentored me as a young child, until as a young college adult, I helped to set
up her kindergarten classroom. Her futuristic thoughts are the foundation of
my philosophy of teaching. I absorbed every one of her words,
as she wisely reminded me to:
“Put out the clay for those children needing fine muscle
development…” “Remember to place both picture books and words with reading
text in the basket of books, because many of these kindergarten children
will already be reading quite well.”… “Include this new book about space,
because I think scientists will soon discover how to actually send a human
into space. I am sure", she said, "that you and the children in this class
will probably see this happen.”
Of course, I did watch John Glenn make his "one small step for man, one
giant leap for mankind." I continue to be aware of and use the most current,
and also most futuristic thinking as I prepare these young students to take
their place in an ever-changing world.
Those were her words...confident, full of motivation, current, and yes,
futuristic. Her words, which, along with many others heard and observed
under her tutelage, formed a solid foundation, upon which, my philosophy and
teaching style were developed. I feel and teach as though each student is
unique and possesses an exclusive learning style. My teaching style is
direct, yet warm. My instruction is embedded with encouragement for student
interaction. My mother left me with the clear understanding that, in our
ever-changing world, each child will always be unique; socially, emotionally
and academically. Each student, whether young or old, is a treasure, to be
accepted by a teacher, ‘where they are’; to be gently developed in a manner
appropriate to the times in which they are being taught.
This is what I look forward to doing with you and your children. Welcome to
Room 74!
