--------------------------------------
Why are Cadets required to follow different student grooming standards??
MCJROTC guidelines are established by the program sponsor - the U.S. Marine
Corps who sets policy, rules and regulations for the program which are
agreed to by contract with the Clark County School District.
--------------------------------------
Why are Cadets required to have a sports physical ANNUALLY??
Cadets must be "fully, physically qualified" to participate in MCJROTC which
may include strenuous physical training.
--------------------------------------
How much do Cadets pay for the use of the uniforms?
Cadets must only purchase their PT (physical training) uniform. All other
uniforms are issued on a temporary loan basis, are recoverable when the
cadet disenrolls/leaves the program. Care and maintenance, with the
exception of periodic dry cleaning provided by MCJROTC, is the
responsibility of the cadet.
--------------------------------------
Why are cadets subject to two types of discipline in MCJROTC?
Cadets may receive Progressive Discipline from MCJROTC instructors for more
serious incidents, but MCJROTC uses a Cadet Discipline Program to help teach
leadership development and instill discipline at the lowest unit level.
--------------------------------------
How can MCJROTC help students?
Cadets seek to "take care of their own" by looking out for the welfare of
each other, to include academics. MCJROTC has its own internal Tutoring
Program to assist cadets who need help with their studies.
--------------------------------------
Why does CCSD let JROTC programs in the schools?
JROTC programs are leadership development programs utilizing time-honored
and proven traditions and military style leadership. They are fully
accredited courses following a Program of Instruction which meets and
exceeds
National Learning Standards. (see MCJROTC Links to MCJROTC Program of
Instruction)
--------------------------------------
What military service obligation is required upon completion of JROTC?
None! Cadets have absolutely no obligation to enlist in the military
services. Many do, but this is an individual choice with no pressure by
instructors.
--------------------------------------
Why are there so many forms to be completed?
Many forms are required to 1) ensure cadets & their parents fully understand
the requirements to be enrolled in MCJROTC, 2) protect cadets, parents &
instructors in case of an emergency, 3) follow program sponsor (USMC)
requirements, and 4) expedite trip permission understanding, compliance and
execution.
--------------------------------------
How can I find out how my son or daughter is doing in MCJROTC?
There are a couple of ways: 1) Get your INTOUCH password from Basic High
School and login to review grades for all classes or 2) email the
student's "primary instructor" for a grade
check/comments/concerns/assistance.
--------------------------------------
Why are cadet haircuts so short??
Marine Corps JROTC is guided by the grooming standards for the Marine
Corps. In other words cadets enrolled in MCJROTC MUST adhere to the
uniform, grooming and shaving standards of the Marine Corps.
--------------------------------------
My son is only 14. I don't want him to start shaving yet/ Can I get a waiver?
Sorry, there are NO special considerations for cadets enrolled in MCJROTC -
all are treated the same.
--------------------------------------
Why do cadets have different standards than regular high school kids?
This program holds its cadets to a higher standard of personal conduct,
appearance and demeanor than other high school students. Each cadet not
only represents himself or herself BUT ALSO represents everyone enrolled in
and associated with the Marine Corps Junior ROTC program everywhere!!
--------------------------------------
Are cadets required to participate in events outside school hours??
Per the Memorandum of Agreement, this program requires cadets to participate
in TWO outside school hours activities each year: the Marine Corps Birthday
Ceremony (November) and the Annual MCJROTC Awards Night (May). The Veterans
Day Ceremony is optional with incentives for attendance. Presently, cadets
are required to participate in community service for credit and homework
assignment.
--------------------------------------
My son or daughter is sick today, so can I get them excused from PT?
Unfortunately, sometimes cadets seek the easy way out of PT by asking for
a 'sick' excuse. If they are too ill to participate in the scheduled PT,
perhaps they should stay home. If they can not participate, they will be
sent to the Nurses Office. They will not receive participation points when
they do not particiapte in PT and continual requests to be excused may
result in extra duties, loss of instructor eval points and/or recommendation
to not be allowed to return to MCJROTC in subsequent terms.
--------------------------------------
What do I do when I disagree with a policy or directive from MCJROTC?
Communicate with the cadet's primary instructor. Please remember the Memo
of Agreement you signed at the beginning of school is a contract and we
expect parents and cadets to adhere to this document.
--------------------------------------
I have changed my mind about being enrolled in MCJROTC, Can I get out?
All requests for schedule changes must be submitted through the cadet's
individual counselor. They must follow State law with deadlines for
schedule changes. Parent involvement is encouraged.
