Hi EKA families!  Welcome back!  I hope you are all ready to get another great year started.  I'm sorry but I will not be returning to EKA this year.  Another opportunity came up for me and after lots of thought and prayer I decided to take it.  I LOVE your kids and will miss them greatly.  The new teacher is extremely lucky to have them and your support.  You made last year for me wonderful!  Thanks for everything.  I miss you all!   August 24, 2012

This is the last week of school!  Remember all students meeting at the Adventuredome must be picked up and signed out at 3:pm Wednesday afternoon.  Thursday is the last day of school and students are being released at 11:am.  Thanks for everything this year!  It has been wonderful getting to know your children.  They are truely awesome!   June 3, 2012

Due to the wind on Friday, the field trip to Eldorado Mine was canceled by the bus company.  We have re-scheduled the trip and, wind permitting , we will be headed to the mine on Thursday, May 31.  I hope all the chaperones are still able to join in the fun.  Sorry for the inconvenience!   May 25, 2012

There are only two and half weeks left of school!  Please start looking for any books that may have Ewing written on the pages.  Look under beds, in book bags, on shelves at home, etc.  I need them back so next year they are here for another bunch of kids to bring home and enjoy.  Thanks!   May 23, 2012

We are spending June 6th at the Adventuredome!  Be sure to get your money and permission slips in as soon as possible.  Deposits need to be sent so reservations can be made for the lunch area.  This will be a great end to a terrific school year.   April 26, 2012

Students are doing a great job on the CRTs.  Only one day left for 5th graders.  Remember... lots of sleep and a good breakfast.  The book fair starts next week.  Students will be taken to the fair several times during the week so feel free to send money or stop by after school to check it out for yourself.   April 20, 2012

Wow!  Hunger Games was awesome today!  What fun it was to see the suspense on the students before going in.  A great big thank-you goes to Mr. Born, Mr. Chu, Mrs. Callaway, Mr. and Mrs. Hincapie, Ms Gardner, Ms Lizarraga, Mr. Mellor, Ms Pane, Mr. and Mrs. Pinensky, Mr. Raigosa, Mrs. Tuman, Mr. Werner and Mr. Williams.  Without your help we couldn't have had such a wonderful trip.  Thank you so very much!   March 23, 2012

EKA Carnival is April 13th!  It is being held at the Sports Center at 121 East Sunset Road from 4:30 - 7:30 pm.  We need at least two dozen cookies from each student in our classroom.  Please package them by the dozen to be given away at the cookie walk.  We also need at least one gift card of any kind and denomination from each student in our classroom.  Thanks so much in advance for your participation and I hope to see you there!   March 16, 2012

February 28 starts Nevada Reader's Week.  We will be celebrating reading all week with different activities. 
-Elementary students are invited to participate in a spirit week.  
   Tuesday: Mismatch Day
   Wednesday: Crazy Hair Day
   Thursday:  Hat Day
   Friday:  Dress as your favorite story book character Day
-We are also having a used book drive.  Send any books that you no longer need or want to school to build our elementary school library.  This is a contest between the classes.
-We will be eating cookies on Friday while we read.  Please send cookies for your child that day.  If you want to send extra for other children that would be wonderful!
-Students from the upper grades will be coming down and reading to our class.  This should be fun for everyone.
Next week will be a fun one.  Please encourage reading at home as much as possible.  A good reader is a good student!  Feb. 23, 2012

Our advisory class will be having a Valentine's Day party.  Ms Ahlm has graciously volunteered to bring a chocolate fountain to school so I am asking the students to bring at least 24 pieces of something to dip into the fountain.  Good choices include strawberries, pineapple chunks, pound cake pieces, Rice Crispy Treat pieces, angel food cake pieces, etc. Students are also asked to bring ONE small gift for a student whose name they will draw. We will exchange gifts, play games and eat lots of yummy treats.  Thanks in advance for all of you participation. All Fired Up is this Friday!  Please send permission slips to school as soon as possible.  Thanks for all that drove to the Natural History Museum.  It was fun and I think the kids learned quite a bit.  Thanks to Mr. Arevalo, Mr. Beining, Mr. Carner, Mrs. Pinensky, Mr. Talley, Ms Uetz, Mr. Lizarraga, Mr. Houle and Mr. Wigfall.  It is so wonderful to have so many volunteers.  Our students are blessed!
