Physics Project

                         How Things Work

Student Task:
Your will design and carry out an investigation to find out how some object
(machine, toy, etc) of your choice works.

Detailed Task:
You will decide on a machine, toy, tool, etc. that you do not understands.
Design and carry out an investigative research on how this object works. The
initial method of approach is to be decided by you. For example: research in
the library, contact a company that made the device, or a repair person, maybe
an engineer or by experimentation on the object. Before you take it apart you
must have the owner’s permission or buy one for your project! You will keep a
detailed step by step log which is an account of what is tried and achieved at
each time you work on this project, along with the process you used in your
investigation. Before beginning, obtain the teacher’s approval for the object
and submit with your name. You will give a class presentation with
PowerPoint. You must include a list of science career that are involved in
development and manufacture of your device.

Each presentation/report will include:
1.A log of the progress and activities on the project. Entries are to be
made each time you work on this project. This log does need to be typed.
Included in the log any difficulties that you may have encounter as well as
  your successes.
2.Pictures of your object before you dismantle it and pictures throughout you
  investigation.
3.A demonstration of your object in class.
4.A PowerPoint presentation to the class, not to exceed 5 minutes.
5.A formal bound typed report of the investigation including:
a.Title page and separate Table of Content page
    b.Coherent plan of action.
c.Complete, concise procedures of your investigation
d.Description of the physical interactions, including physics terms such
      as momentum, energy. etc.
e.Hard copy of your PowerPoint presentation
f.Pictures of you dismantling and reassembling your device
    g.Your typed activity log
    h.Bibliography of resources used
i.List of science careers involved in the design and manufacture of the
      device.
