Monday/Tuesday, 8-31/9-1, 2009

1. Go over study guide and your notes in preparation for the quiz next class period.

Wednesday/Thursday, 9-2/9-3, 2009

1. Begin brainstorming ideas for an informative speech topic. We will soon be in the computer lab to begin working on your speeches.

2. The requirements are...

-Must have a visual aid i.e. powerpoint, poster, etc.

-3-4 minutes long

-Be sure to INFORM us...not PERSUADE us.

Weeks of 9/8 - 9/18

1. Students worked on and presented their informative speeches.

September 21st, 2009 (Period 5)

1. Continue working on and studying your study guide and notes for chapter 2 quiz

2. Email me on INTERACT your username and period number!

October 14th/15th

1. Students read chapter 10 in class and completed study guides.

2. Period 6 will begin giving persuasive speeches on Monday

3. Period 5 will continue giving persuasive speeches on Friday.

November 2nd/3rd, 2009

1. We will be finishing up the second powerpoint on persuasive speaking -- Problem-Solution speech patterns. I hope you took notes on this!!

2. We will start the next series of notes on Logical Fallacies in public speaking, and how to avoid them.

3. complete the worksheet for next class.

4. Start thinking of possible topics for your speeches!! They MUST be in Problem-Solution format!

5. I have posted both powerpoints (2nd persuasive and Logical Fallacies) on the website.

6. I have also uploaded the worksheet to the website.

November30th/December 1st, 2009

1. Today you will be beginning your reflection/response paper to a speech that changed history.

2. Here are the requirements...

a. Choose a speech that influenced the world or history...there are lists available to you under "Individual Class Links -- Speech I." If you wish to choose a speech not on the list, please have it approved by Mr. Knutson. We will have the laptops for the remainder of the week for you to work on your speeches, however it will be due at the beginning of class December 8th/9th depending on what day your class meets.

b. The paper must be 2-3 pages

c. Discuss the following things:

-What was the significance of the speech?

-What was going on in the world at the time to make the speech important?

-How did the speech influence history or the world?

-Who was the intended audience?

-Describe in detail the speaker...essentially provide a mini-biography of them.

-Highlight and explain at least one instance of rhetoric -- logos, ethos, and pathos -- in the speech.

d. Paper must be: double spaced, 10-12 point font, Times New Roman or Arial only, black ink, normal printer paper.
