About The Teacher
I am excited about teaching at the Northwest Career and Technical Academy. I am the Medical Professions Chairperson. Teaching and medicine are two of my favorite things. Prior to teaching at the NWCTA, I taught for eight years in the Medical Magnet Program at Rancho High School. During that period I was a member of the team that developed the Health Occupations Education Standards for the Nevada Department of Education. Prior to teaching, I was a partner in an Orthopedic Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Clinic for thirteen years. I had the opportunity to work with many patients from their time of injury, through surgery, and the rehabilitative process. I moved to a teaching career after the clinic was sold. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Pre-Medicine/Biology and a Master's degree in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine. I am a nationally Certified and a Nevada Licensed Athletic Trainer. I also hold a Registry in Radiologic Technology. I have a Nevada Teaching License in Occupational Education and Biological Science. I have met the qualifications to be a Highly Qualified teacher. I am Certified by the American Heart Association to teach Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibulator skills. In a previous life, I worked in Athletic Trainer/Sports Medicine settings, and was a member of a NCAA National Championship Baseball team at the University of Arizona. I have served in the position of Athletic Trainer for NCAA Championship events, Semi-pro baseball teams, sports medicine clinics and at UNLV. I have been a presenter a numerous conferences including the Nevada Educator Technology Leadership Conference, Nevada Athletic Trainers Association Annual Meetings, and Clark County School District New Teachers Conference. I am a member of the Who's Who of American Teachers.

Mission
If your child is interested in a career in medicine, I believe the Northwest Career and Technical Academy is a place for them. There are over 200 different medical professions. Most of these professions require education beyond high school. My Mission is: 1. Introduce students to medicine, both from academic and practical viewpoints. I will bring my medical experiences to the classroom and use my expertise to mix the academic world with the practical world of medicine. 2. Prepare students for medical education beyond the high school. I want my students to feel they are well prepared and have a basic understanding of medicine when they enter the college classroom. I want my students to tell me they felt comfortable in the college classroom when their peers struggled understand basic concepts. 3. To prepare students to be problem solvers. Rewards come when problems are solved and patients get better. Medicine requires a teamwork approach where each individual of a team is an expert in their own specialty and works with other team members to help the patient. Since every patient is different, each problem is different, and each solution is different. 4. I want students to feel rewarded. Success and rewards come from achievement. I expect students to leave my class, knowing that they have accomplished or learned things they did not do or know before. I want students to feel that what they have learned or have done is relevant and rewarding.
