Assignments for Thanksgiving break

  • The Immigration Project (see below) begins on Monday November 30th.
  • Students must determine what ethnicity they will be researching for the project before Monday November 30th.
  • It must be from their own family background
  • Many studnets have multiple ethnic heritage...they should determine from which part of their heritage they have the most information (example: they are both Irish and Italian buth they have more information and/or contact with the Irish side of the family...therefore their research will be on Irish immigration)

Assignments for 11/30 to 12/4

  • There will be an Immigration Project Research check on Friday
    • Two book sources must be completed

Project Timeline:

  1. Choose which part of your family’s ethnic background you wish to explore (example: Ireland). Due November 30th _____________________
  2. Research your chosen ethnic group in the library November 30th to December 4th.
  3. Construct PowerPoint slide show (see slide checklist) using the mobile laptop station. (December 7th to 16th)

· ½ slides due in class December 9th/10th

· All slides must be complete by December 16th

  1. Print two copies of your PowerPoint slides. These must be turned in December 16th. (One copy to Mr. Conroy-one copy to Miss Ruffini)
  2. Present your PowerPoint slide show to the class on December 16th,17th. 18th) This presentation must be between 3 and 5 minutes.

Your grade on this project will be assessed in social studies as follows: (100 pts total)

  1. Class Participation: 25 pts.

· _____ 0-7pts This student did not utilize library or class time appropriately and was a distraction to other students.

· ______8-14 pts This student utilized some of his/her time well but was a distraction to other students.

· _____15-22 pts This student used their time well and did not provide distractions to other students.

· _____23-25 pts This student did an exceptional job using the time provided and was helpful to other students.
