What do I do if I am absent from Ms. Ruffini's class?

If you are absent from class it is your responsibility to check in with me to
see what classwork and/or homework you have missed. Much of the work you will
do in English will be completed in class, so it is very important that you try
your best to make it to every class.

What is the 8th grade ELA Exam?

All eighth graders will take the NYS ELA exam on April 27 and 28, 2010. (Note:
New York State has moved the ELA testing dates this year from January to April).

This two day test (approx. 90 minutes per day) consists of three parts:

Students then use their notes to complete a chart, two short answer questions
and an essay related to the passage(s).
Part 3. One or two reading passages which students will read silently.
Students then use the reading(s) to complete a chart, two short answers and an
essay related to the passage(s) .

In addition to the content of their answers, students' essays for parts 2 and
3 are graded on grammar, usage and mechanics.
