Mrs. Cowan has been a teacher in the Public School System for 5 years. She
is also a professional violinist, singer and Irish Harpist and performs in
the Reynolds & Cowan Duo, in the tri-state area. Mrs. Cowan lives in
Highland,NY with her husband and two daughters and also runs her own string
studio called, Twilight Star Music Center, after school hours. She conducts
two student groups called "The Celtic Strings" and "The Huff and Puff
Quartet".
Mrs. Cowan originally was a graduate of Ithaca College (and Empire College)
for violin and voice. She studied violin with Gabriel Banat of the NY
Philharmonic and voice with Beatrice Littau of the NY Metropolitan Opera and
Roxy Theatre.
Fifth Grade Chorus: To learn to open the mouth and sing like birds. To find a
hobby that can be your friend for the rest of your life; singing.
Third Grade: To teach the rudiments of music and beginning Recorder and to
share with you the passion I have for the most worthwhile skills I have ever
encountered. It is my hope that through the art of focusing on notes and
rhythm and accomplishing practicing, that you will learn study skills that
will help you for the rest of your life.
Second & First Grades: Here we sing our heads off. We learn what a wonderful
instrument we have in our own bodies and throats. We sing every day! Then we
add the trial of as many instruments as we can get our hands on: violin,
cello, piano, xylophone, drums, rhythm sticks, tamborines, to name a few. And
we dance. We learn to share the space in the room in controlled specific
ways,
to music and we dance and have fun.
