What can I do to help my preschooler become a successful reader?

Learning to read doesn't begin in school. It begins at home. As a parent,
you are your child's first and most important teacher. Six ways to
encourage your child's reading success (based on research) are offered.

1. Talk to your child about everything under the sun.
2. Read good books aloud to your child.
3. Encourage writing activities, since writing can lead to reading.
4. Limit the amount of time spent watching TV and playing video games.
5. Encourage independent reading.
6. Monitor your child's progress and take part in school activities.
