Do you give homework?
Yes, you can expect homework EVERY night [Monday-Thursday]. If your child
tells you they don't have homework, please check the homework section of
this website. Please also look at their homework assignment sheet. I usually
check them each day to make sure they are filled out correctly.

Do you leave homework assignments on this website?
Yes I do and it has been really helpful for parents. If your child says they
do not have homework, please check this website to make sure.

Why do you love moose?
I'm not sure why! I always blame my love of moose on my dad. He and I once
had a discussion on weird looking animals and I claimed that the moose was
not only strange looking but also adorable in a rustic sort of way. I think
my dad thought I was strange because he didn't see anything "cute" about a
moose! Shortly after this discussion he found a stuffed moose in a store and
he bought it for me. That's when my obsession began! I now have a whole
houseful of "adorable" moose items.

What is the plural of moose?
One of the things my students learn in September is the plural form
of moose! It is MOOSE.

Must my child read from their Bag Book over the weekend?
I really want the students to read their Bag Book every Monday - Thursday
night. I do not expect them to read over the weekend, it is not required,
but the more a student reads, the better reader they will become.

How can my child be a 'Star Reader'?
If your child reads every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night AND
they remember to write it down on their reading ticket, they will be a Star
Reader for the week. The key is to remember to write it down on the ticket.
If it isn't written down, I really don't know that the student read. Many
parents have written a short note for their child letting me know that they
read because they lost their ticket or forgot to take home their Bag Book
and that is just fine. I just need to have it written down somehow.

What is the quickest way to reach me?
The best and fastest way to get in touch with me is through email. My
address is kkraus@acsdny.org .I check
my mail every morning, usually at lunch and usually quite often at night.
Calling the school and leaving a message is also good but quite often I
won't have an opportunity to call back until the evening. With email there
is more flexibility.
