--------------------------------------
What time does school start in the morning?
All students should be at the school by 8:20 a.m. Attendance is taken
promptly at 8:30 a.m.
--------------------------------------
If I drive my children to school, where should I drop them off?
Children should be let out of your car directly in front of the main
entrance. We ask that that you pull up to the curb to avoid children
dashing across the driveway during this busy time. Please do not pass
unloading vehicles.
across the drive
--------------------------------------
What should I do if my children are a few minutes late?
If your child is not in the classroom by 8:30, he or she will be marked
absent or tardy. To avoid this, be sure to escort your child to the nurses
office to sign in.
--------------------------------------
What time are the students dismissed?
The school day ends at 3:00 p.m.
--------------------------------------
Where do I pick my children up?
If your child is not riding the bus home, the office needs to be notified in
writing of your intentions. Drive to the rear of the building and park in
the back parking lot. Your child will be waiting for you in our
gym/cafeteria to sign out with the supervising teachers.
--------------------------------------
What do I do if I need to pick up my child before 3:00?
You must send a note to the main office explaining the reason for the early
pick up. Your child will be called down to the office at the appropriate
time when you will sign him or her out. PLEASE NOTE: If you are on a tight
time schedule, remember to park in the back to avoid being blocked in by our
buses in the front. The dismisal buses start lining up in front of the
building by 2:45 p.m. Moving vehicles are prohibited once the buses line up
for loading.
--------------------------------------
If my child misses a day or more of school what do I need to do?
New York State attendance regulations require a written excuse if a student
is absent from school. This excuse must include:
1. The specific reason for the absence,
2. The date(s) of the absence(s),
3. A parent or guardians signature.
These excuses must turned in on the day your children return to school
following an absence. If an excuse is not provided to the school, the
absence must be recorded as "unexcused/illegal."
--------------------------------------
What if our family is going on a vacation?
Please remember that attendance is extremely important to your child's
success in school. The law requires all children to be in school on days
school is in session. Vacations, family visits, babysitting are examples
of "unexcused/illegal" absences.
--------------------------------------
What should I do if I have questions regarding my child's attendance?
Call the school nurse who will help you out with your concerns.
--------------------------------------
My child takes tylenol for headaches, can he carry it in his backpack?
No medicines, over the counter or perscription can be carried by the child.
A parent must bring them in to the school nurse along with a copy of the
doctor's perscription. The child will take any medicine under the direct
supervision of the school nurse. Please be sure the nurse is made aware of
any medical needs your child has as soon as possible.
--------------------------------------
What happens if my child gets sick or is injured while at school?
If the child has a fever, diaharrea, or is vomitting, the nurse will call
for you to come pick him/her up from school to avoid passing the illness on
to others. If you are not available at home or work, the emergency contact
person on your emergency contact card will be called. If these numbers
change during the school year, be sure to notify the main office. We need
to be able to contact you in these situations.
--------------------------------------
What does 'emergency dismissal' mean?
An emergency dismissal is when we have to send the children home without
advance notice. The most common examples are weather or utility failures.
The superintendent makes the decision to close one or all schools depending
on the safety risk presented. At this point, radio stations are notified
and the announcement is placed on the district web-site our school web page
marquis and the automated school call system. Students are then sent home
or to an alternative location as indicated on your emergency dismissal
card. This information is extremely important to insure safe delivery of
your child to the location of your choice.
--------------------------------------
Can I stop in first thing in the morning or right after school to talk?
Teachers often have duties before and after school. We ask that you please
avoid unannounced visits. Call the main office to set up a time to come in
and meet with your child's teacher or the principal.
