Principals Message
October 1, 2009
Dear Parents and Guardians,
H1N1 Infection Prevention: We are all concerned over the flu season this year especially with the threat of H1N1. There are several precautions you can teach your children to reduce their chance of contracting H1N1 flu. At school, we have been teaching children to cough or sneeze into the bend of their elbows rather than into their bare hands or into the air. When using tissue to cover their mouths and noses, they need to be sure to toss the tissue in the trash after use and avoid hanging on to it or leaving it on the desk, chair, countertops or floor. Washing hands or using alcohol-based hand sanitizers especially after coughing or sneezing can help prevent the spread of germs. If your children exhibit flu symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue, vomiting, diarrhea), do not send them to school or daycare. Instead, keep them home, making sure they drink plenty of liquids and take fever-reducing medicines as suggested by your pediatrician. The thought of an H1N1 flu outbreak in our community may be alarming, but remaing informed and following precautionary measures is your best defense in protecting your family. For additional updated information about H1N1 flu and pandemic flu planning check these sites: www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu or http://pandemicflu.gov
