Please read the weekly letter. Homework assignments are mentioned in the letter.
Other activities that should be done on a regular basis include; reviewing the day's classwork with your child, reading to your child, having your child practice journal writing and encouraging your child to bring in a Show and Tell item (one item for the week). These activities reinforce what we do in the classroom and support the program.
Be interested in your child's learning. Engage your child into conversation by asking about today's work (i.e.;When a reading or rhyming families book comes home, ask your child to read it to you). Please use the weekly letter as a springboard for concepts that we are working on. If you see your child is struggling with a concept, please practice it at home. (Usually a practice sheet is sent home. Return the practice sheet when done.) If your child likes challenges, extend the concept that they learned.
Help your child develop a love of learning. Other enrichment ideas include...writing his/her first and last name with "First Grade lines"(using top down formation), making handmade books, writing to a friend or relative (thank you notes, etc.), making a list (grocery list, family list, etc.), writing rhyming words, learning our anchor words, letter/letter sound games, creating letter collages, practicing number formation and writing number sentences (ex.; addition, subtraction) . Don't forget field trips and visiting the Public Library. Please see under "Links" for additional activities and ideas. Extra work can always be sent in. Get creative and have fun! The sky is the limit...
