FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
How much time should my child spend reading each night? Students should read at least 15 minutes each night. I encourage parents to read with their child, discussing the book as they read. You should also include the elements of literature in your discussion. Parents can take turns listening to their child read and reading to their child. Can I send in a treat for my child's birthday celebration? Yes. Please let me know at least a day in advance that you would like to send in something for your child's birthday. We usually celebrate birthdays in the afternoon around 2:00, so please have the birthday treat dropped off at the office on the morning of the celebration. Can I be a chaperone for a field trip? Chaperones are chosen by using a lottery system. Parents should inform me by indicating on permission slips if he or she would like to attend a trip. Once all slips are returned, I will then enter each name into a lottery drawing and choose the number of parents required for that trip. Please keep in mind, if you have attended a previous field trip, you will not be entered into the drawing unless needed. How can I help my child remember multiplication facts? It is very important that your child memorizes his/her multiplication facts. This will help your child to experience success with many other math topics we will cover this year. Flash cards and games such as "multiplication war" are often very helpful. "Multiplication War" requires two players. Each player flips over two cards and then multiplies their own two cards. Whoever has the higher product wins that round and collects the other player's two cards. Please encourage your child to study multiplication facts each night. How long should my child be spending on homework? Each child might require a different amount of time to complete homework. If your child is spending more than an hour of on-task time to complete homework, please let me know. |
