Do you celebrate birthday's in 5th grade?
Yes, we do. Deliver any goodies to the main office in a marked
container that can be disposed of or easily carried home by your
child.
Do you need to know your math facts by 5th grade?
Definitely!!! All children should know their math facts by 5th
grade. Learning new math concepts will be very difficult without
this basic math knowledge. If you don't know them start
reviewing them for 10 minutes every night. Flash cards, workbook
sheets, and websites will help. Try to say them just before you
fall asleep at night instead of counting sheep. You'll
be surprised at how much you will remember.
Where is a good place to do homework?
Homework should be done in a room where there are very few
distractions like TV,VCR,DVD player, CD player, etc. Often the
kitchen or dining room table will be your best bet.
Should I ask my parents for help with my homework?
At first, you may need a little help with directions, editing, or
neatness checks. By November you should be very self sufficient.
The goal of a 5th grader is to become an independent learner.
Should I use an assignment pad daily?
Yes, for the whole year. You are required to write down every
subject's assignment. If there is no assignment, the word NONE
should be written next to that subject.
How do I know if my child is doing their assignments for class?
You will receive a NO HOMEWORK slip for any missed or late
assignment. If more than a few notes are being signed, then it
may be necessary for parent and teacher to begin assignment pad
signing...a last resort!
How can I get in touch with Mrs. Caswell?
My web site's home page has an e-mail icon on the right side of
the screen. If you click on that, you can e-mail me directly at
school. You could write me a note or call the main office.
Phones are not as easily accessible from the classroom for me as
my e-mail.
