What is your homework policy?
Homework will be assigned on a nightly basis. Math, spelling,
and reading/writing can be expected daily. Homework assigned
should take your child no longer than 45 minutes to 1 hour to
complete. Please set aside a designated time for your child to
accurately complete his/her homework. In addition to
nightly homework, your child will have quizzes and tests to study
for and monthly projects will be assigned. Homework is given an
effort grade based on effort, neatness, and accuracy. If it does
not meet those requirements it will be assigned an "R" in which
case your child will have to redo that assignment. I ncourage
parents to assist their child and check it over to ensure
neatness and accuracy. Homework is assigned to reinforce skills
learned in class that day.
What happens if my child doesn't complete his/her homework or classwork?
I expect eveyone in class to complete his/her homework to the
best of their ability. Homework and/or classwork that is not
complete or is incompletewill need to be completed at recess
time. This includes any "R" homework or work that is incomplete
Not completing homework/classwork on a daily basis will result in
your child falling behind as he/she will not be practicing the
skills learned in class.
What can I do to help my child?
Help your child focus on his/her organizational skills. At this
age, developmentally, children need your assistance in developing
good organization habits. With that in mind, please make sure
your child has all the tools he/she needs each day. This would
include folder, planner, homework, pencils, lunch/lunch money.
Please make it a daily habit to ask them for their papers at the
end of the day. In addition, discuss on a nightly basis their
reading choices and their school assignments. Daily practice of
math facts is always beneficial :) The more support at home, the
more successful your child will be.
What is the best way to reach you?
If at any time questions or concerns arise, please feel free to
call the school immediately and leave me a message. I will try
to call you back that same day. I also check email several times
a day and encourage this type of communication. My email address
is ccauda@acsdny.org. This link can also be accessed through the
West Road or Arlington Home page.
Can I send in cupcakes for my child's birthday?
Yes. Please send a note a day or two in advance. You may leave
the cupcakes in the office or send in with your child in the
morning. The children will have the cupcakes/birthday treat
during their scheduled lunch time.
